Things for which I give thanks this week…
- Misky’s series of poems The Old Woman With No Cat which always makes me smile if not laugh out loud – the entire series is available to read here: The Old Woman With No Cat.
- I have come to the top of the waiting list for a partial lower denture courtesy of the student dentists at Leeds Dental Hospital. I have been a volunteer patient for the students on and off since 2015 and have passed through the hands of about 5 or 6 generations of studnts. Treatment is free bar your dedication to turning up every other week for a whole morning or afternoon. I enjoy the contact with this age group, the free treatment up to and including, crowns, bridges, and now a denture. I also enjoy popping into the Leeds Art Gallery and taking a look at som favourite paintings.
- I hope I haven’t shown you this before, but it is a large painting (c 9′ x 5′) of a Norwegian fiord and both the painting and the subject are stupendous…
4. I am grateful that before the age of photography, painters recorded scenes of historical significance – even if they had to employ considerable imagination. The painting below tells a sad tale form the days of the infamous British Empire and yet another ill-fated attempt to control Afghanistan. You can read the story below…
5. Summer is the time for nature in all ots fecundity and I offer a selection of “weeds” which have caught my eye this week…
6. My weather app says expect Saturday to be the first rain-free day – AND ITS SUNDAY!!! Still, gratefull not to have to be watering the garden.
7. Grateful that biting the bullet and paying for a continuous blood monitoring device has brought my diabetes under better control…

The painting of the drummer boys depict a sad story of the past. I’m glad you brightened the post with what the abundance of nature brought. Such an array of plants; seeds could have been scattered by the wind or birds.
That painting is the reason why AI will never replace true creatives, because the nuance of expression in those boys, their expressions, their body language, could never be captured by AI – for on what would it have learned? totally enjoyed your catalog of weeds and such… I recognized more than one as being also present over here (southern New England).
not sure when we made the decision to throw open the yard to whatever flora happens to float (or other transmission vectors lol) into our front and side lawns. I do mow the backyard because of the dog… and the ticks! (We are having a bumper crop of those things).
Enjoy Misky’s work. It is good to keep company with them what are skilled and talented… keeps me trying to improve.

Thanks, Clark, when i was geography student back in pre-history, we learned that you can date the age of hedgerows by the number of species they contain – query your lawn and you might find out how long ago it was that you let it open up…

loved your ten… weeds… ha! can you imagine seeing a vast field of grasses that grow wild each spring and summer… yes, i can… i love the flowers that most people spray to destroy… as a gardener/landscaper i cry when i dig and dig for days to bring weeds under control… grasses have a number that can bring civilization to it’s knees…. most of all thank you for bringing Miskie’s ‘the old woman and the no cat’ to my door… i so enjoyed finding and reading as a woman with no cat myself who at one time had 7 of them… no. 2 wow, that’s pretty sweet you have made yourself… umm, your teeth available to these students… no 3 what a painting, what a painter… thank you for bringing that to the table of the ten…

My sister who also suffered with diabetes, made push backs but it never completely went away, and if you have it – it can always come back, but I do hope to drive it down, thanks, Frank…
