Give a Damn…

Give a thought to the dispossessed
better still give money

Give a charity a regular donation
then they can plan how to dispense salvation

A nation of the dispossessed
is claimed by others – it’s a given

I don’t give a damn about the animals
says one of the entitled supplanters

Call a man an animal or cockroach and
you can now give a call to the exterminator

Give heed to a cornered rat says Putin
it may just jump for your jugular in desperation

When dispossessing a nation – give a thought
to world opinion – goodwill is not inexhaustible…

A powerful and thoughtful response to the prompt, Andrew. So many are totally clueless, or worse than not giving, they give to those who want to oppress.

So true Merril – and unfortunately, not an easy one to unpick…

A gift can do more damage than making things better… so much missuse or worse.

It feels like as poets, we should be doing our bit to stimulate both thought and emotion…

All very relatable, Andrew. It worries me that many people don’t give a damn; they think only of themselves.

Ah, yes, right on the money Andrew, the question of possession and dispossession is a tightrope walk indeed.
