days of Autumn now
remind us of our own days
of Autumn coming
towards year’s closing
fruit and other harvest swells
before Winter’s knell
we too can fill stores
with our hard-won knowledge and
bless those left behind

Over at dVerse Poets Pub, Punam – paeansunplugged in Poetics, Uncategorized, invites us to write about Autumn at least once this year…
~~~ having entered my 84th year on this planet a week ago … I am keenly aware of time fleeting, the importance of passing on the few pearls of wisdom I’ve managed to collect over the years.
The image you chose is the perfect accompaniment to your poem …. cheers!
I am some fifteen years behind you but already that age feels Autumnal, Helen – keep on dispensing those pearls…
I’m at that point too, Andrew, in my autumn, and still filling my stores.
It’s a task without end, Kim…
This resonated, Andrew. I don’t know when exactly does one step into autumn but it feels I am there. Love the idea of filling our stores with knowledge. That’s a great photo.
You’re right Punam – there is no pin-pointable moment marked by all your hair changing colour and falling out but rather a creeping affair… Oh and the photo is an AI generated image although I do have a very similar picture I took in Moldova…
If we could just leave enough for those who come after to prosper in a better way than we have done.
As a humanist, there is no higher ideal or purpose, Björn…
